The Nexus Forum for Research and Dialogue (NeFRaD) is a United States-based institution dedicated to catalyzing societal transformation through public policy reforms, facilitated by research, dialogue, education, and capacity building initiatives. Our primary objective is to promote stability, economic growth, and democratization within Ethiopia, while fostering harmonious interrelations among nations in the Horn of Africa and beyond. We are presently in search of a motivated and seasoned individual to join our team as an Operations Coordinator on a voluntary basis. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to collaborate
with a dynamic team committed to effecting substantive change in Ethiopian society by advocating for viable policy alternatives.

Job Summary:

The Advocacy and Public Engagement Coordinator will be a key member of NeFRaD's
advocacy unit, playing a central role in shaping policy discourse and influencing decision-
making processes through strategic advocacy approaches. Responsibilities include organizing
open public discussions on critical policy issues, raising public awareness, engaging in
networking and lobbying efforts, and collaborating with local and international stakeholders
to advocate for favorable policy frameworks in Ethiopia. Additionally, the role involves
overseeing a dedicated media team responsible for managing an interactive platform for
discourse, executing policy-oriented initiatives, and maintaining the organization's media
presence across various channels.

Responsible For
1. Strategy Development and Implementation:
  • - Collaborate with team members across the organization and external partners to develop advocacy strategies aligned with NeFRaD's mission and objectives.
  • - Implement strategic advocacy approaches, including open public discussions, awareness campaigns, lobbying, and networking.
2. Public Mobilization and Engagement:
  • - Mobilize public support for policy initiatives through effective communication and outreach activities.
  • - Organize and facilitate inclusive policy dialogues to engage diverse stakeholders in constructive discussions.
3. Partnership Building:
  • - Establish and maintain partnerships with local and international stakeholders, including political, economic, and civil society actors.
  • - Collaborate with partners to advocate for favorable policy frameworks and initiatives within Ethiopia.
4. Media Management and Oversight:
  • - Lead the media team in fostering an interactive platform for discourse and policy- oriented initiatives.
  • - Oversee the production of content for various media channels, ensuring alignment with NeFRaD's objectives and messaging.
5. Content Development and Coordination:
  • - Coordinate with content developers, editors, presenters, and moderators to produce high-quality, engaging content for advocacy and dialogue initiatives.
  • - Ensure consistency and accuracy of messaging across all media channels and platforms.
6. Technical Support and Innovation:
  • - Provide technical support and guidance to the media team in utilizing diverse media channels effectively.
  • - Explore innovative approaches to enhance public engagement and outreach through multimedia content and technology.
7. Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • - Monitor and evaluate the impact of advocacy and dialogue initiatives, including media outreach efforts.
  • - Collect feedback from stakeholders and adapt strategies as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
8. Team Leadership and Development:
  • - Provide leadership and direction to the advocacy and media teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • - Support the professional development of team members through training and mentorship opportunities.

Educational Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree (preference for a master's degree) in social sciences, law, economics, or journalism.
  2. Professional experience of at least 2 years in public policy, preferably public policy advocacy.
  3. Proficiency in Amharic and advanced English language skills. (Additional local lang is a plus)
  4. Strong understanding of Ethiopia's social and political landscapes, with knowledge of public policy development and implementation contexts.
  5. Conviction in the efficacy of strategic, evidence-based, citizens-backed, and collaborative public policy reform processes.
  6. Strong social media engagement skills and a sound standing in public profiles.
  7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Willingness to commit at least 10 hours per week.
  9. Recruitment based on a rolling basis with the start date being as soon as possible.
